We have been trying to use our meager earnings to get everything ready. It’s been an extremely difficult struggle. Because of this, I had to go back to work which inevitably means that our plans to sail the river in May are off.
This will be the third summer that we have had to cancel this trip. It’s very disappointing but we gotta do what we gotta do in order to stay afloat financially.
The other thing that we have been discussing is that even with my taking on a second job, we may STILL not have enough money to do all the things to the boat this summer. This realization is DEVASTATING for me.
If we can’t get things done this summer, then we can’t try to leave in August and head south. And if we can’t leave in August, that means we may have to spend ANOTHER winter here in the Pacific Northwest on the boat. This news is also not so great.
So I have been in a depressive funk about all of this and I think Dovid has too.
I am looking into the option of taking on a volunteer caretaker position in Tonga for their summer (November 2017 – April 2018). It may not be sailing, but at least it’s out of the USA for a while and NOT being cold on the Columbia River another winter. Wish us luck!
