Raised with the Water
Some of my earliest memories are of being on water. My family are avid boaters and campers and my brother and I continue the tradition. We had a Venture 25 growing up, learning the ways of the wind and water with our parents in the sunny Gulf of Mexico. There is seawater in my blood. Now I am preparing for the journey of a lifetime, inspired by my childhood daydreams on wind and water – to circumnavigate the globe, like so many before me. Generations of men and women who have heard the call of the wet wilderness and have answered, “Here I am.” Niccolea and I are nearly ready to see the world as few have – on its own terms.
Getting Ready To GO
Our vessel, Emuna II is strong, with a good reputation as a smooth sailer and a steady ride. Niccolea took classes for her maritime certificate, and we will get professional lessons from a friend this spring to help us get to know Emuna II better, and work as a team. We have a good interior layout and ample storage space. We have a dream, and have put a lot of work into making it reality.
Emuna II was built while we were in grade school (1979), but she’s been well maintained and shows it. There is always maintenance, particularly when you live aboard as we do, simply because things get used more. But so far nothing has been horrific and we are getting familiar with her sytems, engine and quirks. By the time we set sail, we will know every bolt and stretch of fiberglass.
We’d like input from YOU!
We would like input from Endeavor members as we are to the point we are picking out ports to visit. This is more than a simple sail around the world, we want to get to meet the world while we are at it. Stopping in ports to meet up with Endeavor members is a huge part of the attraction for us. Let us know where you live, what ports you can get to – what we should see. We want to see where you live and what you like about it. Show us your monuments, your stories, your history. Tell us about where you live and why you love it. Introduce us to your Nana. Your cousins. Your world. Help us decide where in the world to stop and have a visit.
The first leg of our journey will be north to San Juan Island, then down the entire west coast of the Americas and around the Cape, and back up the eastern seaboard. From there we will jump off to Europe and beyond. So let’s hear from you!
Please, put your thoughts and suggestions
