We have been slacking on our posts here about our actual activities! We haven’t been doing much filming for our YouTube channel either so don’t think it’s just our blog readers that are being neglected. So… to remedy the blog at least!
This summer I found out that I happen to have EXCELLENT credit and got a line from PayPal which I used to buy everything we have been putting off getting due to lack of funds. I would say “So much for boating on a budget” except we did still get the cheapest things we could that still met the minimum criteria. This means that we now have a radio (already installed it but didn’t film OR take pics – D’OH!), solar panels, a radio, a GIANT radio antenna, a Garmin GPS plotter AND handheld (for backup), AND a wind generator <– I know, a LOT of energy sources but we want to have a fridge AND a chest freezer on board, PLUS our computers AND the toaster oven and possibly an electric kettle (to boil water when I don’t want to brave the stove flame).
Basically, a LOT OF THINGS came in the mail nearly all at the same time!
Sadly, I did realize that the new life vests were NOT the ones I had originally wanted and it explains why they were HALF the cost I was expecting to pay. No worries! We will buy harnesses to wear with them so that we can hook the jack lines and for emergency rescue lifting and whatnot. It will be fixed.
NOW comes all the work of installing all of the aforementioned solar and wind kit so that we will have it ready for winter when the electric bill usually skyrockets since our heating isn’t gas.
OMG! Plus we still have to finish the head project we started in JANUARY… we are using the head as a storage closet but it would be nice this winter NOT to have to walk a tenth of a mile up the dock to the restroom if we have to use the loo in the middle of the night! >_<
So that’s what’s up with us! Any comments, questions, advice, or whatever, please feel free to leave it in the appropriate space below! Also, if you are a fellow sailor and have a blog, by all means put your link so we can learn from you too! ^_^
Thanks for reading!
