Since part of what I want to do as an individual human is to be the change I want to see in the world, I have been searching the internet for things about how others are championing tolerance. In this search I came across an article from December 2014 about the new rules in the schools for Queens, NY.
The law will allow boards of education or trustees to close school on a day where a large number of student absences are expected due to a religious or cultural observance such as Lunar New Year or Diwali. It passed the Assembly on February 3 and the Senate on May 13.
I’m of the opinion that every person walks their own path and each person’s respect (and patience) of where others are on the path is paramount to our coexisting as a planet. Regardless of what my personal values and beliefs are for my own life, I honor those who have a different path and am glad that the state of New York is allowing the people of the state to express their unique culture and heritage.
As always, Thanks for reading,
