Oregon is a rainy place. I mean REALLY rainy. Like rain EVERY day but for a few days here and there kind of rainy. If you’re not from the Pacific Northwest, I don’t think I can really express exactly how rainy it is. The rain is a hindrance and a worry right now concerning the original Emuna.
After we took the top of to take the fridge out of the original boat and moved it to the bigger boat, I did replace the top but the seals were irreparably broken so even with a tarp covering her, she has been taking on water since fall. We do go over and pump her bilge out periodically but that hasn’t been happening for a few weeks now. If she had her electrical system set up with an automatic bilge pump we would have less worries, but as it is we have to have the weather, time and energy to hand pump.
As you can imagine, the poor little boat is now FILLED with water to the point of being a bit scary. She is a sturdy little thing though and the weight of the water barely seems to make a dent. Regardless, the standing water is not good for her so pumping MUST be done. And yet, most days I can’t even bring myself to walk over to the other dock and even just look at the other boat. After school and work I am just not up for it. Dovid waits for the perfect weather which at this time of year is asking a lot.
Procrastination is one of the things we have to get over while we are still here at port. I imagine that things will be happening so fast when we are underway that procrastination won’t even be an option, but I would rather get over it sooner rather than later.
A fellow live-aboard has moved back and happens to have a portable power pump! We will be pumping her out sooner than we would have… still have to arrange to get a battery and lug it over to the other boat though…
WE DID IT!!!! It took us the whole afternoon to work up to it in our list of things we had to do in order to get to the pumping, but it got done. It was nearly dark when we started and it took 3 hours, but IT GOT DONE!
To someone who has owned a boat for a while, this is probably like SO WHAT this is what you are SUPPOSED to do. For us this is part of our process of getting ourselves together and being aware of our habits and tendencies. These are the things we need to know in order to adjust so that we can function underway.
As always, thanks for reading!
